Baker Cheese Awarded 2020 Dairy Plant of the Year

ST.CLOUD, Wis., July 9, 2020 – Baker Cheese, a fourth-generation family-owned, St. Cloud, Wisconsin-based cheese manufacturer, announced that it has been named the 2020 Dairy Plant of the Year by national trade publication Dairy Foods.

As one of 12 dairy processing plants throughout the United States nominated for the recognition by Dairy Foods, Baker Cheese received the most votes in a five-week-long online promotion.

“I’d like to extend a special congratulations to our plant operations team and our entire organization for their exceptional work,” said Brian Baker, president of Baker Cheese. “Achieving this prestigious recognition is a total plant effort, and I am proud of their commitment to creating superior string cheese.”

The 12 dairy processing plants nominated by Dairy Foods for the 2020 Dairy Plant of the Year award manufacture products including fluid milk, cheese, ice cream, and cultured dairy products. They were featured in the publication over the past 17 months for their innovative manufacturing processes, facility expansions, and progressive work in the industry.

Baker Cheese’s cover story highlighted the company’s sixth expansion since 1985. The expansion added an additional production line to allow for more variety and capacity including increased production of private label, conventional, and organic string cheese.

During the 2020 Dairy Plant of the Year voting process, more than 4,000 votes were cast through social channels and at dairyfoods.com.

Baker continued, “One of the most incredible aspects of being awarded the 2020 Dairy Plant of the Year, was the outpouring of support we received from our local community, business partners, and the Wisconsin Dairy community as a whole. Over the years, we’ve steadily increased our purchase of milk from Wisconsin dairies, and we couldn’t operate without their partnership and support.”

After 104 years in business, Baker Cheese produces what has been recognized as the best string cheese in the United States. The family-owned and operated business competes globally and has become renowned in the industry for its role as a premier supplier of private label string cheese manufacturing services, a producer of retail products, and a company committed to supporting local dairy farmers.
